Arkay
Arkay is a 100+ year-old, family-owned premium packaging manufacturer based in New York, trusted by many of the world’s most iconic brands.
We partnered with Arkay to evolve their brand and design a new digital experience that reflects the precision, tactility, and technical mastery behind their work.
We created textural vignettes to showcase over 100 years of vintage photographs for the Arkay family business.
The aper, pressure, ink, foil, embossing, die cuts all feature subtle decisions measured in microns, and processes refined over generations.
Arkay's challenge wasn't capability: it was translation. How do you communicate complex printing techniques and production systems online without losing the nuance that makes them exceptional?
Arkay employs the most premium printing techniques and technologies in their paper-based packaging. We wanted a digital guideline that exemplified their incredible craftsmanship.
Our team worked carefully to recreate foils, debossing, embossing, and other printing techniques, digitally.
With an extensive library of historical imagery and assets, our job was as much about curation as creation.
Arkay’s history stretches back to 1922. From hot-metal presses in Manhattan lofts to advanced multi-color and specialty finishing techniques today, their reputation has been built on precision and consistency.
We designed a digital system informed directly by their process: layering, texture, depth, restraint, and hierarchy. These are principles borrowed from print and reinterpreted for screen.
Paper became our interface source and inspiration. Our subtle grain backgrounds reference uncoated stock, the structured grids echo dielines, and motion was meant to feel deliberate, like a printing press cycling through stages. We used color with intention, emulating the way ink is applied to a sheet. Overall, every interaction reinforces materiality.
The team came up with an ingenious concept of using hover states on the web (even for mobile) to showcase the different printing techniques used to produce vivid colors on packaging.
Arkay’s capabilities span early sampling, substrate consulting, their proprietary Paint on Press®, CMYK processes, embossing, foil stamping, and large-scale production across categories.
We organized these systems into clear pathways, by industry, by technique, and by application, helping visitors understand not just what Arkay makes, but how they make it.
Trusted by icons from beauty and wellness to food, spirits, and technology, Arkay partners with brands that care deeply about first impressions.
The new site balances heritage and modernity, honoring over a century of craft while positioning Arkay for its next era.
Because the site is a marketing showcase, we were able to slow down the user experience, and immerse them within a world of beautiful, high-quality packaging.
The result is a tactile, elevated digital ecosystem that feels as considered as the packaging it represents, structured, precise, and built to last.
